BAR\/RIKADE: 1848 Revolution in Cologne<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

175 years ago, all of Europe is in turmoil. The revolutionary spark jumps from Paris to Cologne \u2013 in the middle of Carnival. On March 3, 1848, a crowd storms the city hall. Cologne becomes a center of the revolution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The K\u00f6lnische Stadtmuseum commemorates this time of barricade fighting with the pop-up bar \u201cBAR\/RIKADE\u201d: look forward to a free event program \u2013 from concerts and DJ parties to revolutionary song recitals and open-stage activities. Right in the middle: the bar exhibition \u201c1848 Revolution in K\u00f6ln\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

50 Years: H\u00f6hner<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The H\u00f6hner band is as much part of Cologne as is K\u00f6lsch and carnival. In 1972 the cult band \u2013 still known as \u2018Ne H\u00f6hnerhoff, a feathery quartet in chicken outfits \u2013 entertained carnival-goers for the first time. Today it has achieved nationwide fame. Songs such as \u2018Via Colonia\u2019 and \u2018Ich ben ne R\u00e4uber\u2019 are enjoyed by listeners across the generations. With special events such as the classical evenings with the K\u00f6lner Philharmonie and the H\u00f6hner Rockin\u2019 Roncalli Show, this Cologne institution keeps demonstrating anew that it is musically more multifaceted than just being a carnival band.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In honour of the band\u2019s 50th<\/sup> anniversary, the K\u00f6lnisches Stadtmuseum is dedicating a colourful special exhibition to the diverse history of Cologne\u2019s most feathery band.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exhibition venue will be the Maritim Hotel, which is one of the top addresses in Cologne during carnival season!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
