Winter in Cologne has many faces: sometimes it\u2019s so icy that you can see your breath, sometimes it\u2019s all gray and drizzly\u2014and snow is rarity. But one thing is certain: winter is full of stories!<\/strong>

Come in and find out what the cold season used to be like in Cologne!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Immerse yourself in Cologne\u2019s winter landscape with a frozen Rhine, ice floes, and record low temperatures. Find out what people used to do to keep warm in the past\u2014and how sledding, lanterns, and festivals have always brought warmth to the dark days. Try things out yourself! Put your hands in a soft muff, screw open a hot water bottle made of iron, shake a snow globe until it gets stormy inside, and test your skills at table ice curling and buzzer quizzing.Put on your hat and gloves, and off to the Cologne City Museum!<\/strong>

The accompanying program includes family tours, interactive concerts, and \u201cSnow Globe Magic\u201d workshops.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Marta Bogda\u0144ska: Footprints on the Sands of Time<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As part of the biennial programme Artist Meets Archive by Internationale Photoszene, the K\u00f6lnisches Stadtmuseum is presenting the works of Polish artist Marta Bogda\u0144ska (*1978) from 16 May to 15 June. And this at two locations with two different exhibition sections: in the Open Space in the museum foyer and in the Photoszene festival centre “Photo Pavillon. Temporary House of Photography”, Hahnenstr. 8!

Bogda\u0144ska has worked intensively with the museum\u2019s extensive photographic collection. The resulting multimedia project is dedicated to the presence and experiences of animals in urban space and sheds light on the question of which non-human stories are hidden in the photographic collection \u2013 an archive that is made by humans for humans and tends to marginalise the perspective of animals. Can we nevertheless reshape the memory and retell history from the animal perspective? Marta Bogda\u0144ska invites viewers to question their own knowledge and ideas. With the help of various artistic strategies, she opens up new ways of reading the photographic collection of the Cologne City Museum in order to promote an empathetic attitude towards our animal companions in the past and present.

The K\u00f6lnische Stadtmuseum is once again a special stop on this year\u2019s 29th Cologne Nativity Scene Trail \u2013 featuring a nativity scene that tells the story of the Holy Night in K\u00f6lsch dialect<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our lovingly designed nativity panorama places the Christmas story right in the middle of Alter Markt<\/strong>. The Christ Child is born in a flower stall, surrounded by charming townhouses \u2013 and iconic Cologne characters. Alongside fictional figures like H\u00e4nneschen and B\u00e4rbelchen, historically documented Cologne originals such as the eccentric Maler Bock or the notorious L\u00e4sche Nas gaze in wonder at the newborn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Look forward to a nativity panorama full of surprises and Cologne-style stories!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In harmony with the nativity scene set up in the OPEN SPACE, we\u2019ve also created a festive display in our shop windows. Those who peek through the mysterious \u201cpeepholes\u201d will be rewarded with atmospheric historical photographs of a snow-covered Alter Markt.

With his collection\u2014over 40,000 artworks and historical objects\u2014Wallraf laid the foundation for Cologne\u2019s museums.
But we\u2019re not just focusing on this obsessive collector: Stop by and discover what prominent Cologne personalities\u2014such as musician Wolfgang Niedecken or former Cathedral Master Builder Prof. Dr. Barbara Schock-Werner\u2014collect today: from curiosities to everyday items, from lightning strikes to \u201cWeckm\u00e4nner\u201d (traditional German pastry figures)!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Perspectives on Migrant Football in Cologne<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

On the occasion of the UEFA EURO 2024, which includes five matches in Cologne, we\u2019re dedicating our foyer to the topic of football and Cologne\u2019s migrant football clubs \u2013 and inviting you to join us for a game of table football.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Football is more than just a sport \u2013 it brings people together: men and women, young and old, people of different religions, skin colors, and ethnic backgrounds. Since the 1950s, football has played an important role in the history of migration in Cologne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Come by and learn more about the unifying \u2013 but also excluding \u2013 power of football, discover stories, clubs, and biographies. Play a round of foosball and place your bet on who will win the European Championship!
<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The objects on display include stories such as that of Co\u015fkun Ta\u015f<\/strong>, a Turkish national player who played for 1. FC K\u00f6ln from 1959 to 1961, becoming the first Turkish professional footballer in German football history<\/strong>. Or Lukas Podolski<\/strong>, who is deeply connected to Cologne while proudly embracing his Polish roots<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Historical footage from WDR recalls a “guest worker tournament”<\/strong> from the 1960s, with its final held at the M\u00fcngersdorf Stadium. Additional objects were contributed by Cologne football clubs such as Hellas FC K\u00f6ln e.V.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This focus exhibition was created in cooperation with various Cologne football clubs and is supported by the Cultural Foundation of the Kreissparkasse K\u00f6ln<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
