At the entrance to the Kölnisches Stadtmuseum children can borrow (free of charge) a special audioguide that recounts the events in the city’s history in a way they can easily follow (note: in German only!). In this way, the children can listen to exciting stories of everyday life in the Middle Ages, of important battles involving knights in armour, about Cologne’s eventful path to becoming a modern city, the fate of the ‘Heinzelmännchen’, and much more besides.

Another way of making the tour of the permanent exhibition more fun is to take part in the quiz. Our quiz forms are designed for children from age 8 and from age 12. These can be downloaded here, or obtained for 10 cents from the ticket office. The tasks and puzzles focus on the chief exhibits and allow a child-friendly approach to city history.
